Job Overview EFL teaches English to adult speakers of other languages through language study, conversation, exposure to American culture, and basic life skills. We also create opportunities for students to develop relationships with volunteers. This is an hourly, part-time position with a set wage of $20/hour. Opportunities to provide 1:1 tutoring to students are likely to arise, and may increase the number of paid hours per week. The pay rate for 1:1 tutoring is $30/hour.

Project Background:
The Women’s Digital Literacy and English Program (WDLEP), funded by the U.S, Department of State’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and administered by FHI 360, is a three-year program that will build the professional skills of 2,500 Iraqi minority women through classroom training in both business English and Digital Literacy. As part of the WDLEP, FHI 360 will develop an English language curriculum to promote digital literacy and work place English skills.
Consultant Description:
The consultant will develop a tailored English language curriculum through both online correspondence and a 3-day meeting in Washington, DC with FHI 360 Program staff. More specifically, he/she will identify a culturally appropriate English skill-building text(s); create business English supplementary materials to go along with the selected text; and create a full syllabus with an accompanying teacher guide. Additionally, pending availability and performance, the consultant will be invited to deliver a teacher training session in the Fall of 2013 in Erbil, Iraq where he/she will train the WDLEP English Language Instructors in EFL pedagogy, and delivery of the tailored WDLEP English curriculum.
Required Skills/Qualifications:

EFL teaches English to adult speakers of other languages through language study, conversation, exposure to American culture, and basic life skills. We also create opportunities for students to develop relationships with volunteers. This is an hourly, part-time position with a set wage of $20/hour. Opportunities to provide 1:1 tutoring to students are likely to arise, and may increase the number of paid hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities
The program director is responsible for
- recruiting students into the program through advertising
- recruiting volunteer teaching staff, primarily from the church congregation
- providing volunteer training
- preparing weekly lesson plans and a set curriculum for the overall program
- coordinating student level assessment and handling all student inquiries about the program
- organize and order student books for the course
- coordinating with the church for community events (Thanksgiving, Spring Carnival)
- handling all administrative needs including processing student payments and finding substitute teachers
Required Qualifications
- at least a B.A. degree and either a TEFL certificate or be able to demonstrate extensive experience in TESOL
- a love for internationals and an ability to work with adults from diverse cultural backgrounds

STUDY LANGUAGE IN EGYPT AND CHINA
Intensive Summer Language Institutes (ISLI) provides fellowships for U.S. classroom teachers to spend six weeks overseas studying intermediate and advanced-level Arabic in Alexandria, Egypt, and Chinese in Changchun, China. Current K-12 teachers, community college instructors of Arabic and Mandarin Chinese, and students enrolled in education programs who intend to teach these languages can apply. Participants earn ten hours of graduate credit through Bryn Mawr College, and are provided with peer tutors and roundtrip airfare. All travel and study-related costs are fully covered. Towson University English Department seeks a part-time ESOL instructor for the spring 2011 semester.
The instructor will teach one section of first-year English, a credit-bearing course, to a linguistically diverse class of 15 students.
Responsibilities include: designing your own curriculum to meet the standards set by the first-year writing program. The curriculum should focus on developing academic writing skills including text-based writing, referencing conventions, critical thinking, and evaluation of sources.
Possibility of renewal and increased courseload in future semesters.
Requirements: Masters in TESOL or Applied Linguistics, Experience teaching academic ESOL (writing, reading, listening, speaking, and study skills) at the college level.

PROFESSIONAL POSITION
The position of COORDINATOR OF ADULT EDUCATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT is available in the Continuing Education and Training Division. This position is on a full-time, 12-month basis, working under the supervision of the Director of Adult Education. Position is on a grant-funded basis through 6/30/12.
FUNCTION: This position serves as a resource for all Adult Education instructional staff and is responsible for planning and executing professional development activities that support and enhance appropriate instruction of learners. Specific responsibilities include: mentoring, coaching and supporting all ABE, GED and ESOL instructors to improve instruction and assure the integration of student needs assessment and other accountability measures; supporting Continuing Education and Training adjunct faculty to improve instruction and ensure standards of instructional quality are met; identifying professional development needs of teaching staff and coordinating activities to address those needs; overseeing development and implementing curriculum based on DLLR Adult Education Literacy Services Instructional Standards; teaching 3-5 hours per week; working with the Intake/Assessment Specialists to address the special needs of enrolled learners, including people with disabilities and English language learners; assisting with the development and execution of the program’s Data Quality Plan; attending State Instructional Specialist meetings and communicating and implementing pertinent information to appropriate local program staff; and attending State professional development activities and applying principles at local level.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred. Five years teaching, staff training and mentoring experience in adult education (ABE, GED, ESOL) and knowledge of curriculum design, development and instructional processes and strategies based on research in adult learning and development is required.
SALARY: Grade 10 on the 12-month Salary Scale. Minimum starting salary of $39,953, with actual salary placement based on credentials. Plus excellent fringe benefit package.
