FUNCTION: This position is responsible for appropriate intake, assessment, goal development and transition of learners. This position also serves as the instructional leader for all ESOL instructional staff. Specific responsibilities include: working as a team member with the program leadership to meet program goals and objectives; conducting or managing the implementation of orientation, intake, and assessment sessions; developing and coordinating local policies and procedures for assessment and placement of learners in appropriate level classes at appropriate educational functioning levels; communicating with learners and staff regarding placement, progress, attendance issues, and maintaining wait list; overseeing appropriate activities to support learner transition between program levels and beyond the program; functioning as a master teacher to mentor, coach and support instructors; identifying local professional development needs and planning, coordinating/conducting local professional development to ensure learner achievement; overseeing curriculum development and implementation based on AELS Instructional Standards; assisting with the development and execution of the program’s Data Quality Plan; attending state meeting; implementing training for and communicating pertinent information to appropriate local program staff; and training new staff in neighboring programs in the same geographic region.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of three years of ESOL teaching experience in a DLLR-funded adult education (or similar) program is required. Experience assessing and counseling target population as well as delivering professional development (via training and/or mentoring) is preferred. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills is required. Bilingual (Spanish – English) is highly preferred; all others encouraged to apply. This is a grant-funded position, requiring evening hours.
SALARY: Grade 10 on the 12-month Salary Scale. Minimum starting salary of $40,752, with actual salary placement based on credentials. Plus excellent fringe benefit package.

The instructor will teach one section of first-year English, a credit-bearing course, to a linguistically diverse class of 15 students.
Responsibilities include: designing your own curriculum to meet the standards set by the first-year writing program. The curriculum should focus on developing academic writing skills including text-based writing, referencing conventions, critical thinking, and evaluation of sources.

Five years teaching, staff training and mentoring experience in adult education (ABE, GED, ESOL) and knowledge of curriculum design, development and instructional processes and strategies based on research in adult learning and development is required.
